One Church @ True Light
Project at a Glance
Client: Lead Pastor Marcus D. Holman (One Church at True Light, Houston, TX)
Location: Houston, Texas
Timeline: 1 week from discovery through launch
Scope: Full website redesign & build (responsive, optimized for mobile and local search)
Inspiration Source: Grace Church, Houston, TX – especially their clean visual language, typographic clarity and welcoming aesthetic.
Design Brief & Goals
- The church sought a modern, clean website that clearly communicates their mission, welcomes newcomers, and makes it easy for congregants to engage (events, giving, online service).
- The key objectives:
- Reflect community-focused values (warm, accessible, inclusive)
- Establish strong local identity (Houston)
- Make site management easy for staff (CMS, modular sections)
- Improve discoverability (mobile-first / search / calls-to-action)
- We agreed to use Grace Church’s digital presence as inspiration — their use of generous white space, bold photography, clear sectional navigation.
Visual Design Approach
Branding & Contextual Details
- The church is positioned as rooted in Houston parish life — so we incorporated local landmarks subtly (Houston skyline fades, neighborhood portraits) to reinforce place-based connection.
- We aligned tone and messaging with the client’s brand: welcoming, authentic, mission-oriented.
- We looked at Grace Church’s web tone and structure: their home page immediately leads with “your church for growing community belonging impact”. Grace Church We adapted that to “Your story matters. Your community awaits.” for True Light.
Technical & UX Highlights
- Responsive design: Mobile first, ensuring key CTAs remain front-and-center on smaller devices.
- CMS Integration: Built in [CMS name e.g., WordPress or Webflow] with modular blocks so staff can easily add events, update hero images, post blog items without developer involvement.
- Performance: Optimised images, lazy-load for below-the-fold content, and SCSS build to minimise CSS footprint.
- SEO & Local: Structured data for church schema, Google My Business linking, meta tags, canonicalization. Houston-specific keywords (e.g., “church in Houston TX”, “Houston community church”) used in content.
- Accessibility: Contrast ratios meet WCAG AA, alt-text for images, keyboard navigable menus.
- Analytics: Integrated Google Analytics + event tracking for key actions (“Watch Live”, “Give”, “Visit Sign-up”).
- Security & Hosting: HTTPS enforced, secure forms, backups, optimized caching.
Results & Impact
- The redesigned site offers a clearer funnel for first-time guests (Homepage → Visit page → sign-up).
- The ministry team now enjoys greater autonomy, able to update content without waiting for developer time.
- Analytics show improved metrics (anticipated): increased “Visit” form completions, more “Give” clicks, higher mobile engagement.
The site now reflects a professional, mission-driven presence aligned with the church’s community-first identity.
